SuperMedia LLC (formerly Idearc Media, pronounced EYE-dee-arc), based in Dallas, Texas, sells print and Internet advertising to small and medium size businesses. It emerged from the bankruptcy of Idearc Media in January 2010.

SuperMedia’s advertising products and services include the SuperGuarantee and SuperTradeExchange programs, Verizon SuperYellowPages, FairPoint SuperYellowPages, Superpages.com, EveryCarListed.com, LocalSearch.com, Superpages Mobile, and Superpages Direct direct mail products. The company's non-branded services include: Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Google Adwords Certified Services (PPC), Website Building and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) guidance.

History

Idearc Media, formerly Verizon Information Services, was spun off from Verizon in 2006. It consisted of Superpages.com and functioned as publisher of the Verizon Yellow Pages, which itself consisted of the former directory operations of Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, and GTE. It also offered "Solutions Direct" full-color direct mail postcards. It previously offered several proprietary magazines such as "Solutions at Hand" and "Solutions at Home".

The company diversified its product set by moving its focus from a "print-centric" business to a "multi-platform" business, including the 2007 acquisition of InfoSpace Inc.’s directory assets and the LocalSearch.com URL.

Bankruptcy and renaming

Idearc Media voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 31, 2009 and emerged on December 31, 2009. At the start of 2010, it announced a new name, SuperMedia, with ticker symbol SPMD. Shares in the new company were issued to the creditors and bondholders. The pre-emergence common stock of Idearc Inc. (which has recently traded under the symbol “IDARQ.PK “) was canceled effective December 31, 2009. Holders of the old Idearc Inc. common stock did not receive any distributions as part of the emergence Plan.

Merger with Dex

On August 21, 2012, Super Media and Dex One Corporation announced a stock for stock transaction. The combined company will be called Dex Media. The merger will bring together directory operations formerly part of Ameritech in Illinois, Qwest, and Verizon for the first time since the Bell System divestiture. On March 17, 2013, Dex and Supermedia filed a "pre-packaged" bankruptcy petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Supermedia's state of incorporation.

The completion of the merger was announced on April 30, 2013. Although the corporate entity will be called Dex Media, the two companies will continue to conduct business at the local market level under the SuperMedia and Dex One brands.

Official directory publisher

When Idearc was created, it signed a 30-year deal to serve as official directory publisher for Verizon. Since Verizon has sold off some of its local telephone operations after the creation of Idearc, the following companies have continued to use SuperMedia for its directories:
