Sogou.com (Chinese: 搜狗; pinyin: Sōugǒu; Literally: "Search dog")1 is a Chinese search engine which can search text, images, music, and maps. Sogou was launched on August third, 2004 and is owned by Sohu, Inc.
Sogou's product line is divided into two major domains: web and desktop applications. Web application products are designed to classify on-line information, such as music, picture, video clip, news, map and vertical information; desktop applications aim to improve the user experience: Sogou Chinese Input is the most popular input software in China to help users increase their typing rate, Sogou Explorer adopts the real dual-core techniques to accelerate the on-line surfing speed for Internet users and it connects to the cloud to recognize malicious websites and software to protect its users.
Sogou's search engine as the core product of Sogou has faced years of challenges and optimizations. Nowadays Sogou has established a powerful server cluster to grab and store more than 10 billion web pages and handle 500 million web pages updating daily. Depends on the unique web ranking system, the search engine's performance is outstanding in three critical criteria: web page size, latest, and accuracy.
Basing on the actual demands of users, a new algorithm of artificial intelligence has been designed to analysis and understand the intention of the user through their queries. This feature is done through the classification of different search results and merging similar search result. This feature combines all the search results from web, music, pictures, news, and maps sub-searching hub to respond to the user's query.
Although anchored by its search engine techniques, Sogou also has series of desktop products. Sogou Input makes use of advanced search engine techniques which are the analysis and categorization of the most popular words or phrases on the Internet. This feature allows Sogou Input to perform much more accurately in first hit word and advance other input software. Sogou Explorer offers menu bar searching, text selection searching and other seamless ways to embed the search engine of Sogou.
