Ahluwalia (Punjabi: ਆਹਲੂਵਾਲੀਆ (Gurmukhi) named after Jassa Singh Ahluwalia.1 The name Ahluwalia is derived from Jassa Singh's ancestral village of Ahlu.2 The use of Ahluwalia as a last name has been adopted by his followers.

History and traditions
The Ahluwalias are decended from the Kalal caste , who in turn claim decendency from Rajput's from Jaisalmer.3
Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was commander and leader of the Ahluwalia Misl. He is remembered in the Sikh fraternity as "Guru Ka Lal", which literally means beloved of the Guru.3 He was also given the title "Sultan-ul-Quam" (King of the Community), by his followers.4
